[Maryland] Book Symposium: Rhythms of Resistance — Guyana’s Indentured Legacy

Join DUAFI for an afternoon of literary dialogue around Dr. Abdun Noor’s acclaimed novel exploring the untold story of indentured servitude, colonial legacy, and Caribbean identity. Free admission. All are welcome.

The Dhaka University Alumni Forum Inc. (DUAFI) invites you to a Book Symposium featuring Rhythms of Resistance: Guyana’s Indentured Legacy — a powerful socio-political novel by Bangladeshi-American author and former World Bank senior staff member, Dr. Abdun Noor.

Set against the backdrop of Guyana in the 1980s, the novel traces generations bound by colonial servitude — from enslaved peoples to indentured workers shipped from underdeveloped colonies by European imperial powers. Through vivid storytelling, Dr. Noor gives voice to the millions whose labor built nations while their own names were erased from history.

The symposium will bring together scholars, authors, and readers for a rich afternoon of reflection and dialogue on:

  • The legacy of colonial indenture in Guyana and the Caribbean
  • Questions of memory, identity, and generational resilience
  • The role of literature in recovering erased histories

About the Author: Dr. Abdun Noor is a Dhaka University alumnus, a Bangladeshi-American educationist, and an acclaimed writer of novels and plays. His work centers themes of migration, human rights, and social change. Rhythms of Resistance is available on Amazon.
