Languages are more than words — they are memory, identity, resistance, and belonging. When a language disappears, an entire worldview is lost. Join us for a powerful, family-friendly community observance of International Mother Language Day (IMLD), inspired by the historic 1952 Bangla Language Movement and grounded in today’s global and local fight for linguistic justice.
This symposium-style event blends reflection, research, policy dialogue, and joyful cultural celebration, transforming UNESCO’s global commitment to multilingual education into local action across the DMV region.
* Celebrate linguistic and cultural diversity
* Promote mother-tongue-based multilingual education
* Honor historical sacrifice and ongoing struggles for language rights
* Strengthen partnerships among schools, families, researchers, policymakers, and diplomatic missions
* Advance equity, inclusion, and global citizenship
